Product Description Kaye plays a court jester who becomes involved with outlaws trying to overthrow the king. Genre: Feature Film-Comedy Rating: NR Release Date: 2-MAY-2006 Media Type: DVD
Amazon.com Danny Kaye spoofs Robin Hood and Scaramouche in this inventive slapstick swashbuckler. Portraying the clownish but good-hearted entertainer Hawkins, he infiltrates the court of the corrupt Basil Rathbone (up to his usual brand of cruel villainy) disguised as the legendary king of jesters, Giacomo. After a court sorceress hypnotizes Hawkins into believing he is also a legendary assassin, Hawkins has more identities than he can keep straight, and Kaye zips back and forth between them at, literally, a snap of the fingers. Comic highlights include a wonderful sword fight with Rathbone in which he constantly switches identities, and the classic "chalice from the palace/vessel with pestle" wordplay as Hawkins plays "hide the poison" and forgets where it is. With comely Glynis Johns as his spy-in-arms love interest, Angela Lansbury as the scheming princess, and Mildred Natwick as the dotty spellcaster, this is Danny Kaye at his comic best. --Sean Axmaker

Classic fun movie July 12, 2010 Elizabeth Williams (Happy Valley, OR, US) I was very pleased to find this movie new, excellent price, and close captioned! Kudos to Amazon for having it availabe!!!!
Danny Kaye's Best! June 7, 2010 Eric Borgman (USA) I haven't seen all of Danny Kaye's films, but I can't imagine any better than this one. The Court Jester is quite silly but lots of fun. There are several "skits" that are indelible in film history. "The chalice from the palace..." "The doge does what the doge do..." Kaye's switching between the buffoon and the hypnotised hero! Great stuff. I highly recommend this family comedy! I would also reccomend to viewers who liked this classic film another Technicolor classic The Adventures of Robin Hood [Blu-ray].
Danny Kaye at his best... March 18, 2010 Fred E. Gunzel (Winnipeg, Manitoba) Danny Kaye's performance is one of the best Comedic roles ever done. It made me laugh years ago and still does to this day.
The only thing missing on this DVD is an in depth feature of Danny and the making of this film. Basil Rathbone is superb
as the canniving villain.
Danny Kaye at his funniest! February 19, 2010 Mary H. Halvorson (Portland, Oregon USA) This movie is a classic and perfect for kids old and young. I bought this for my niece and nephews (ages 9 to 12). They laughed all through it and now we can all do "the pestle with the poison" schtick. This movie offers something for everyone and especially good, clean, witty humor. If you haven't seen the marching scene of knights in armor with Danny Kaye in the middle you haven't had the perfect belly laugh of your life.
Great!!! February 1, 2010 Christopher Ortega (TOPEKA, KS, US) Recieved the movie in great shape. Got as gift for my mom. It was even funnier than I remember. My mom and I laughted and laughed.
