Product Description THE STORY OF ROBIN HOOD AND HIS MEETING UP WITH LITTLE JOHN AND FINDING HE HAS A LONG LOST HALF BROTHER. HE ALSO FALLS FOR HISBESTFIENDS LOVELY SISTER MARIAN. TOGETHER THEY FIGHT THE EVIL SHERIFF OF NOTTINGHAM TO PROTECT KING RICHARD'S LAND.
Amazon.com Kevin Costner's lousy English accent is a small obstacle in this often exciting version of the Robin Hood fable. That aside, it's refreshing to have a preface to the old story in which we meet the robber hero of Sherwood Forest as a soldier in King Richard's Crusades, coming home to find his people under siege from the cruelties of the Sheriff of Nottingham (Alan Rickman). After Robin and his community of outcasts and fighters take to the trees, director Kevin Reynolds (Fandango, 187) is on more familiar narrative ground, and he goes for the gusto with lots of original action (Robin shoots two arrows simultaneously from his bow in two directions). Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, as Marion, makes a convincing damsel in distress, and Morgan Freeman brings dignity to his role as Robin's Moor friend. Alan Rickman, however, gets the most attention for his scene-chewing role as the rotten sheriff, an almost campy performance that is highly entertaining but perhaps a little out of sorts with the rest of the film. --Tom Keogh

GOOD BLU RAY TRANSFER August 30, 2010 A. G. Dharmadasa (COLOMBO-07, wp Sri Lanka) An excellent movie, it has all the ingredients a blockbuster film should have and holds up well to date. I am sure a better job could have been done restoring the movie but overall there was no grain in the print. Costner owns this movie in every sense. I don't really need the Brit accent to be sold on Robin Hood film as long as it captures the spirit of the story. You hardly see fun blockbusters like this anymore. The film also holds some fond memories for me so that works as a bonus. It has good making of features one which includes Pierce Brosnan. While I certainly love Ridley Scott's version of Robin Hood it really didn't have a fun/rouge like feeling.
Good job ! August 27, 2010 Movieland I enjoyed that movie, specially on a Panasonic 50 ''. The video transfer on blue-ray was well done. Except for few scenes, grains was not visible. The black point is the purchase of the movie. The price I paid AMAZON is in my wiew exhorbitant....
One of my favorite movies! August 19, 2010 M. C. Wilcox (Green Country Oklahoma) I truly place this movie in my Top 10 all-time movies. I refuse to see the new version. I love the special edition and I'm glad I saved money with Amazon.
